Cassandre Beaugrand fulfilled her destiny when she took the Olympic gold medal in her hometown of Paris.
Her brilliant win that saw her among the leaders throughout before stretching away on the run to top the podium, has made her a national hero in France.
Cassandre Beaugrand, born on May 23, 1997, in Livry-Gargan, France, is an elite French triathlete who has emerged as one of the sport's most dynamic competitors. Renowned for her speed, versatility, and resilience, Beaugrand has achieved significant milestones in both national and international triathlon circuits.
Beaugrand's journey into triathlon began at a young age, influenced by her athletic family background. Her father was a competitive swimmer, which paved the way for her initial exposure to competitive sports. Cassandre's early dedication to swimming and running seamlessly transitioned into triathlon, where she found her true calling.
BREAKTHROUGH
Her breakthrough came in 2013 when she won the European Youth Triathlon Championships, showcasing her potential on the continental stage. In 2014, she secured another notable victory at the Junior European Championships, further cementing her reputation as a rising star in the sport.
In 2015, Beaugrand claimed the gold medal at the Junior World Championships, demonstrating her prowess and signaling her arrival on the global scene. Her consistent performance earned her a spot on the French national team for the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics, where she gained invaluable experience competing against the world's best triathletes.
One of Beaugrand's most significant achievements came in 2018 when she won the gold medal at the ITU Triathlon World Cup in Tiszaujvaros, Hungary. This victory marked her first major senior international title and highlighted her potential to dominate at the highest level. The same year, she also clinched the bronze medal at the ITU World Triathlon Series event in Hamburg, showcasing her ability to compete with the elite.
In 2019, Beaugrand continued to excel, winning the bronze medal in the mixed relay at the ITU World Triathlon Series Grand Final in Lausanne, Switzerland. Her performance in mixed relay events has been particularly commendable, contributing significantly to France's strong presence in this discipline.
SUPERTRI SUCCESS
Beaugrand's success extends to the supertri, a series known for its fast-paced and innovative racing formats. She has consistently delivered strong performances, including podium finishes, which have solidified her status as one of the top competitors in the series.
Apart from her athletic prowess, Beaugrand is also known for her dedication to promoting the sport and encouraging young athletes. Her journey from a promising junior athlete to an accomplished senior competitor serves as an inspiration to many aspiring triathletes worldwide.
Cassandre was part of the France team who took a bronze medal in the Mixed Relay at the Tokyo Olympics.
She then had an inconsistent time at the supertri 2021 Championship Series finishing eighth overall but with a podium position as she finished third in Jersey. She started 2022 at a pace with wins at Arena Games Triathlon London and WTCS Leeds, but once again struggled with mixed results in the 2022 supertri. She took the win at the series opener in London, and finished just off the podium in 4th place at her home race in Toulouse. However disappointing results in Munich and NEOM saw her finish in 8th place overall.
Beaugrand took part in the grand finale of the 2023 Arena Games Triathlon powered by Zwift in London, where she finished in 2nd place, after a close fought battle with Beth Potter.
That result repeated itself in 2024, even off picking up a fourth supertri League win Malibu last year.
However, her form really peaked as this year went on, with back-to-back WTCS wins in Cagliari and Hamburg proof of her growing dominance before she collected the ultimate prize under the most extreme pressure at her home Olympics in Paris.
