Sullivan Middaugh

Sullivan Middaugh, born in 2004 in EagleVail, Colorado, has quickly emerged as a powerful and versatile force in both off-road and draft-legal racing. Growing up in a family deeply embedded in endurance sport - his father Josiah is a long-standing XTERRA USA Champion—Sullivan’s entry into competition came naturally and with a strong foundation.

His breakthrough came in 2022 when he claimed victory at the XTERRA USA Championship in Beaver Creek, outpacing his father in a dramatic finish. He returned in 2023 to defend his title and solidified his standing with a dominant performance at the inaugural XTERRA North American Championship in 2024. That same season, he capped his off-road achievements with a thrilling win at the XTERRA Short Track World Championship in Trentino, Italy, edging out elite competitors in a hard-fought sprint.

While excelling off-road, Middaugh has also made significant progress in draft-legal triathlon. As part of USA Triathlon’s Project Podium, he trains in Tempe, Arizona, and Park City, Utah, working across all three disciplines with a focus on consistent improvement. His efforts have led to victories in World Triathlon Continental Cup races, including standout performances in Edmonton and Magog.

In 2025, Middaugh earned a top-10 finish at the World Triathlon Cup in Napier, New Zealand, and claimed silver in the XTERRA North American Short Track Championship, further highlighting his range and competitive resilience.

Known for his dominant cycling and powerful run finishes, he continues to develop his swim to maximize competitiveness at the highest levels. With his sights set on the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics, Middaugh’s disciplined approach and multi-format strength position him as one of the most promising young athletes in the sport today.
