Supertri NXTgen Spotlight: Dylan Thompson – Houston’s Rising Star

Post thumbnail description

Our next NXTgen campaign nominee is a name you’ll want to remember because he’s not just racing toward the future of triathlon, he’s helping shape it.

Introducing Dylan Thompson, a 2x National Champion and aspiring professional triathlete from Houston, Texas. Dylan isn’t just chasing finish lines, he’s chasing greatness, and he’s doing it with a community-first mindset and a fire that’s hard to miss.

Meet Dylan Thompson

Dylan’s triathlon journey started like many great stories do: with inspiration. After watching his dad race in triathlons, something clicked, and he was hooked. Since then, he’s thrown himself into all three disciplines with passion, focus, and joy. Whether it’s the swim, the bike, or the run, Dylan brings elite-level energy to every part of the race.

One of the reasons Dylan is so passionate about triathlon is that it provides a strong foundation for excelling in a wide range of endurance sports. Whether it’s club swimming, cyclocross, criterium racing, road cycling, cross country, track, or the occasional 5K, Dylan consistently performs at a high level.

His training is heavily swim-focused, logging an impressive 30,000 yards per week with his swim club. He builds his cycling and running volume alongside his triathlon teammates, often joining multiple coffee rides throughout the week. With such a diverse training regimen and participation across various race formats, Dylan keeps a packed and dynamic schedule.

At only 13 years old, Dylan has already built an impressive resume in endurance sports. He’s a two-time national triathlon champion, a five-time Typhoon Texas Kids Tri winner, the reigning Pennsylvania State Cyclocross Champion, and the Clash Miami Junior Champ. This year, he dominated the Austin CapTex Tri alongside us and represented his swim club at the Texas Age Group Championships. Now, he’s setting his sights on the Chicago Triathlon start line, where he’ll go head-to-head with some of the most promising young talent in the sport.

More Than an Athlete

Dylan’s impact goes well beyond podiums and performance. He’s a true ambassador for the sport at the grassroots level in his hometown of Houston. Closely connected with many local race directors, Dylan regularly volunteers at events and works hard to get more kids into the sport. He’s known for showing up early, helping set up, cheering on beginners, and making sure that racing is accessible, fun, and welcoming for the next generation.

Dylan said it best, “If you want the sport of triathlon to grow, youth triathlon has to grow with it.”
