Who Needs to Do What to Win the Women's supertri Title?
The story so far
As we approach the final race in NEOM, the women's supertri title remains tantalizingly close for several key athletes. The season has seen incredible performances across races in Boston, Chicago, London, and Toulouse, with Georgia Taylor-Brown currently leading the standings.
But with 20 points on offer for the winner in NEOM, there are still scenarios where other top contenders could snatch the crown. Here’s a breakdown of what each athlete needs to do in order to take home the supertri title.
Georgia Taylor-Brown: On the Verge of Perfection
Georgia Taylor-Brown is having a season for the ages, with a perfect score of 45 points heading into NEOM. She’s won races in Chicago, London, and Toulouse, and only needs a third-place finish in NEOM to secure her second supertri title. If she achieves this, she will have won four races out of five this season, marking a near-perfect performance.
Season recap:
Boston: GTB kicked off her season with a solid performance, finishing second behind Jeanne Lehair.
Chicago: She dominated with a flawless race, taking home 15 points.
London: Another commanding performance as she topped the podium again.
Toulouse: GTB made it three in a row on the packed streets of Toulouse.
What She Needs to Do: GTB simply needs to finish third or higher in NEOM to claim the Supertri title. Her consistency and ability to deliver under pressure make her the clear favorite.
Jeanne Lehair: The Realistic Challenger
Jeanne Lehair has had a rollercoaster season, with standout performances tempered by setbacks. She currently sits just 6 points behind GTB and remains the most realistic challenger for the title. However, for Lehair to win, she needs a victory in NEOM and for Taylor-Brown to finish fourth or lower—a difficult but not impossible task.
Recap of Key Performances:
Boston: Lehair kicked off her season with a superb win, taking the full 15 points.
Chicago: She struggled slightly here, finishing fifth with 11 points in the sweltering heat of Chicago.
London: Lehair bounced back, securing a third-place finish behind GTB and Cassandre Beuagrand, adding 13 points to her tally
Toulouse: A mechanical issue cost Lehair dearly, resulting in a disappointing DNF and just 2 points
What She Needs to Do: Lehair must win in NEOM and hope that GTB falters, finishing fourth or lower. This would allow her to leapfrog GTB and claim the title.
Taylor Spivey: Consistent and Competitive
Taylor Spivey’s consistency has kept her in the hunt all season. Tied with Lehair on 39 points, Spivey’s path to the title is identical: she must win the final race and hope that GTB finishes outside the top three. Spivey has been a steady performer, rarely missing the podium, but she’ll need everything to go her way in NEOM.
Recap of Key Performances:
Boston: Spivey got off to a steady start in the series opener, finishing fourth and collecting 12 points.
Chicago: Spivey's first podium of the season finishing third and grabbing 13 points.
London: Spivey stayed competitive with a fourth-place finish and 12 points.
Toulouse: Her best performance of the season, finishing second and adding 14 points.
What She Needs to Do: Like Lehair, Spivey must win in NEOM and hope that GTB finishes fourth or lower. Her consistent podium finishes make her a strong contender if GTB has an off day.
Cassandre Beaugrand: The Outsider with a Chance
Cassandre Beaugrand is still mathematically in contention but faces an uphill battle. Sitting on 36 points, she needs a win in NEOM, GTB to finish seventh or lower, and for Lehair and Spivey to finish third or lower. While unlikely, Beaugrand’s explosive potential makes her one to watch.
Recap of Key Performances:
Boston: Beaugrand had a slow start, finishing eighth and picking up 8 points.
Chicago: She bounced back with a strong performance, finishing second behind Taylor-Brown.
London: Another great race saw her finish second again, just behind GTB as the Crown Racing women continued to dominate.
Toulouse: A disqualification in Toulouse resulted in zero points.
What She Needs to Do: Beaugrand must win the race and hope for a series of unfortunate results from her competitors. This is the most improbable scenario but not impossible given her raw talent.
