Olympic gold medallist Alex Yee set for homecoming party as supertri League visits London
Olympic gold medallist Alex Yee is ready for the ultimate homecoming party when supertri League visits London on Sunday, September 8.
Yee grew up just a few miles away from the West India Quay location that has become synonymous with the very best in short course triathlon.
Thousands of family, friends and fans are expected to line the streets and give him a true moment to remember, just 39 days after he dramatically overtook his great rival Hayden Wilde in the final stretch of the run to win gold in Paris.
Other British Olympians who tasted success in Paris and who now return to London with their medals are Beth Potter and Georgia Taylor-Brown. Yee and Potter will be representing Brownlee Racing, who are sure to win the hearts of the crowd as a British focussed squad acquired and run by Jonathan and Alistair Brownlee.
Yee’s upcoming battle with Hayden Wilde is sure to be compelling viewing once again. After a surge of interest in the duo following their Paris exploits, Yee took the opening supertri League round in Boston before Wilde hit back to top the podium in Chicago.
However, Brownlee Racing have work to do as they come into London third in the team standings, where Podium Racing lead the way ahead of Crown Racing. Crown Racing duo Widle and Taylor-Brown are currently top of the Men’s and Women's Leagues respectively.
Sunday’s race will be the fourth time supertri has hosted an event at the iconic West India Quay, meaning it draws level with Jersey as the most used venue on the circuit since the inception of triathlon’s fastest, most tactical and technical racing in 2017.
The tight turns, the cobblestones and technical bends will be sure to push the athletes to their limits as ever, and with ample opportunities for thousands to spectate, West India Quay’s plethora of bars and restaurants with prime viewing locations and a huge appetite for triathlon in the UK, the event is tailor made for another classic day of viewing.
The action gets underway at 12:00 local time. For full details of how to spectate for free, visit the supertri website, where you can also view the live broadcast of the event or find the broadcasters in your region.
