"It’s a very hard and very different format" - Beaugrand Reflects On Supertri E Win

Cassandre Beaugrand insisted she had no room to ease up on her way to the Supertri E world title despite her commanding victory.
The French star got the better of her great rival Beth Potter after two years of finishing behind her in London with a dominant display at the Supertri E World Triathlon Championships powered by MyWhoosh.
Olympic champion Beaugrand went out hard and maintained her lead before edging further and further ahead. By the end it seemed she had something to spare, but that was not how she felt.
She said: “I knew it would be a long race. Even though it is short distance it is still 40-45 minutes, so you have to keep some energy and I gave it everything I had. I was not chilling, I was pushing hard.
“It’s a very hard and very different format so I think sometimes you can be good and sometimes not and it is hard.
“Last year I was in a big block of training so it was feeling harder but today I was more fresh and I didn’t do a lot of training the last few weeks and it was a good race for the rest of the season. It’s the beginning of the season and now we have to push a bit more.”
While it was no surprise that Potter joined Beaugrand on the podium, there was a breakthrough performance from Germany’s Julia Broecker, who came third.
She said: “I am really happy and I didn’t expect this. I was just focussing on myself and I don’t make stupid mistakes and I stayed controlled in my own pace and was doing my race and my plan and it worked well and I am very happy.
“The first two rounds it was really hard but I was still a bit controlled and then I let it all out in the final round and it was really nice.
“I had a good training camp and I knew I was fit but I had bad luck before this and it was amazing and nice to show my form is really there and I am confident now for the next races.”
