Michaličková Saves Her Best For Last With Supertri Toronto Victory

Zuzana Michaličková capped the most consistent campaign of any athlete across the Supertri Pro Series with a commanding victory at Supertri Toronto, having finished third in Austin and seventh at Blenheim Palace before saving her best for the third and final regular season round.

Slovakia's standard-bearer has been a fixture at the sharp end all season, the only woman to contest all three Pro Series rounds and finish in the top seven each time — third in Austin, seventh at Supertri Blenheim Palace and now the win in Toronto to cap the run of form in style. She crossed the line in 59:34, the only woman to break the hour.

Kira Gupta-Baltazar, Michaličková and Mackenzie McConagha broke clear on the bike, but Michaličková had the decisive weapon — the fastest run of the day at 15:52 — surging away on the final run to win by well over a minute. Behind her, Annie Fuller produced the second-quickest run to move through into second, while home favourite Gupta-Baltazar held on for third.

USA's Fuller took second in 1:00:40, with Canada's Gupta-Baltazar completing the podium in 1:01:02 to the delight of the home crowd. USA's McConagha was fourth and Canada's Dominika Jamnicky fifth, with Canadian juniors Sophie Coulombe and Jeanne Gadbois producing eye-catching performances in sixth and seventh.

Supertri Toronto was the third and final regular season race of the Supertri Pro Series. The pros competed over a sprint distance, draft-legal format. The event pays prize money 10 deep, and three athletes per gender qualified for the Supertri Pro Series Final in Jersey on September 6, with its $800,000 prize pool.

With Zuzana Michaličková already qualified for the Final, the three women who claimed the last available spots were Annie Fuller, Kira Gupta-Baltazar and Mackenzie McConagha.

Supertri Toronto also formed a stage of Triathlon Canada's National Development Series, with the leading home athletes contesting a separate domestic podium.

Attention now turns to the Supertri Pro Series Final in Jersey on September 6, which features the richest single-day prize purse in triathlon this year.
