Hayden Wilde joins Alex Yee on Supertri Pro Series Final start line as short-course triathlon's defining rivalry reignites

Wilde’s addition to the $800,000 Supertri Pro Series Final sets up a first Yee v Wilde showdown in more than a year — and a three-way collision with reigning world champion Matt Hauser

Hayden Wilde will line up against Olympic champion Alex Yee for the first time in more than a year at the Supertri Pro Series Final in Jersey on September 6, after the New Zealander was added to the start list. And this time the great duel comes with a twist: both men will also have to reckon with Matt Hauser, the Australian who was crowned world champion while the pair were off the short-course grid.

The two great rivals have not shared a start line since WTCS French Riviera on August 31, 2025, which was their only meeting after the Supertri Grand Final in NEOM on November 3, 2024, where Yee outsprinted Wilde by a single second in a classic finish, even as Wilde clinched the overall 2024 Supertri series crown. It was the closing chapter of a golden year for the pairing that also produced the unforgettable Paris 2024 Olympic final, where Yee reeled in a 14-second deficit over the closing kilometres to overhaul the long-time leader and win gold by just six seconds, with Wilde taking silver.

What followed sent the two of them down very different roads. Yee stepped away from swim-bike-run for much of 2025 to chase a long-held running ambition, clocking 2:11:08 on his marathon debut in London before returning to short-course action along with a Diamond League appearance this year. Wilde recovered from injuries sustained after a bike accident in 2025 and has focussed on longer distance racing with his planned short course comeback this year having been hampered by illness.

In the rivals' absence, Matt Hauser seized his moment. The Australian was crowned 2025 WTCS Champion on home soil in Wollongong. Hauser was already confirmed for Jersey; with Wilde now on the list, the Pro Series Final brings together the reigning Olympic champion, the reigning world champion and the man who has pushed Yee closer than anyone, all racing head-to-head over Supertri's relentless format.

The Pro Series Final will be raced over the iconic Supertri format — three back-to-back rounds of swim, bike and run. It is the culmination of a revamped season in which athletes compete as individuals across three qualifying events, with the top three finishers per gender at each qualifier earning their place on the Jersey start line alongside Supertri's all-star line-up. The winners will take the lion's share of the $800,000 purse, the largest single-day prize fund in triathlon this season.

The women's race is headlined by Olympic champion Cassandre Beaugrand (FRA) and features the sport's most decorated Olympian and Supertri’s most successful athlete, Georgia Taylor-Brown (GBR), alongside reigning Supertri champion Jeanne Lehair (LUX) and former European champion Jolien Vermeylen (BEL).

Jersey holds a special place in Supertri's story. The Channel Island hosted the format's first-ever full outing back in 2017 and has since staged races in 2018, 2019, 2021 and 2025, its technical course and passionate crowds making it a firm favourite among athletes.
